Tannin-modified soybean protein concentrate for wood adhesive

Soybean protein concentrate (SPC) modified with condensed mimosa tannin (CT) were employed as eco-friendly and formaldehyde-free adhesives for glued-wood joints. Eucalyptus grandis wood boards free of knots cracks used substrate. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that provided higher thermal stability to the adhesive, which allowed expanding temperature range hot pressing. Apparent viscosity dynamic angle contact measured evaluate influence content on rheological behaviour wettability process. A classic shear-thinning was observed all adhesives. equilibrium reached a maximum value low CT content. This effect attributed existence associative interactions between SPC. Bonding quality parameters (wood failure percentage shear strength) joints according EN 302-1:2004 standard. 1 % w/w SPC adhesive best performance dry conditions. These suitable indoor environments.
